Fimpec Oy expands its operations in Uruguay

Jyväskylä-based Fimpec Oy, which provides services in the sector of construction project management, has expanded its operations by establishing a subsidiary in Uruguay.

The new subsidiary, Fimpec Uruguay S.A., established in July 2017, has begun its activities according to plan. It currently has a five-person strong team of officers on location, serving both old and new customers. The new business unit will be headed by CEO Pekka Salomaa, M.Sc. (Eng.), and Country Manager Sami Kaskela, M.Sc. (Eng.).

“Uruguay will see mega-sized infrastructure projects in the coming years to meet the needs of the country’s social development and industrialisation. A local subsidiary gives us the best means by which to serve our customers,” says the new subsidiary’s CEO Pekka Salomaa, stating the reasons for establishing the company.

According to Salomaa, a number of Fimpec officers possess several years’ experience of working in Uruguay due to both of the pulp mills constructed there. Thanks to these projects, the establishment of the new company proceeded fairly easily.

Fimpec Oy was established in Jyväskylä, Finland, in 2009. It has rapidly grown into an international operator, and focuses on the production of safety management and comprehensive project management services for the large-scale industrial investments and public construction and infrastructure projects of its customers. Its operations also cover construction and supervision tasks involving business and office buildings.

At the moment, the company employs 45 officers and its net sales for 2016 were approximately EUR 7.3 million. The most significant project the company has been involved in up to date, Metsä Group’s bioproduct mill in Äänekoski, Finland, has started up and was inaugurated on 18 October 2017. Fimpec was responsible for the management and supervision of the project’s structural engineering as well as site supervision in terms of mechanical installations and the supervision of various parts of the site. Pekka Salomaa acted as a construction manager in the project, and was also a member of the project’s management team.
