Fimpec and Metsä Fibre signed an agreement to build the Kemi bioproduct factory
When ready, the Kemi bioproduct plant is the largest wood processing plant in the northern hemisphere and the largest investment in Finland’s forest industry, worth 1,6 billion euros. Environmentally, energy and material efficient plant will function fully without fossil fuels and its electricity self-sufficiency will be 250 percent. When completed, the mill will produce 1.5 million tons of softwood and birch pulp annually as well as numerous other bioproducts.
“We want the best professionals in their field to be our partners in building a modern fossil-free bioproduct plant in Kemi, and we require them to commit to the safety, schedule and quality requirements of the project. Our long-term partner Fimpec operates in accordance with these principles, and we have all the conditions to complete a successful major industrial project in cooperation in Kemi”, says bioproduct plant project manager Jari-Pekka Johansson from Metsä Fibre.
“The Kemi bioproduct factory is an investment utilizing the latest technology, whose equipment deliveries are based on the most environmentally efficient and sustainable solutions. This commission significantly strengthens the long-term and fruitful cooperation of Metsä Fibre and Fimpec, in which we openly seek new and effective ways of working. Our experts will work closely as part of Metsä Group’s Kemi bioproduct plant implementation organization. Our collaboration with Metsä Fibre has had a significant role already when Fimpec’s growth story was being written. We are very happy and taken that we can start writing new pages to this story”, says Pekka Salomaa, Fimpec’s chairman of the board.
